Calendar for School Year 2014-2015

PASIG CITY, May 22 (PIA)--The Department of Education has released the official school calendar for School Year (SY) 2014-2015 which will commence on June 2, 2014, and will end on March 27, 2015.

According to Department Order No. 18, s. 2014 (PDF) issued by Secretary of Education Armin Luistro, the next school year will be composed of 201 school days excluding summer classes.

The department order directs the heads of public and private elementary and secondary institutions nationwide to follow the school calendar.

Private schools, however, may choose to depart from DepEd’s official calendar. These schools are, nevertheless, subject to the provisions of Republic Act No. 7797, which prohibits them from beginning classes earlier than the first Monday of June and later than the last day of August.

The important dates for SY 2014-2015 are as follows: 2014 June 2-First day of classes; June 21-First Parent-Teacher Conference; August 7 to 8-First Quarterly Examinations; August 16- Distribution of Report Cards and Second Parent-Teacher Conference;  August 27-    National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) for K to 12–Grade 9; October 16-17 Second Quarterly Examinations; October 20 to 24-Semestral break (for students only); October 25-Distribution of Report Cards Third Parent-Teacher Conference; December 20- Start of the Christmas break; 2015 January 5- Resumption of classes; January 8 to 9-Third Quarterly Examinations; January 24-Distribution of Report Cards Fourth Parent-Teacher Conference; March 5-National Achievement Test (NAT) for Fourth Year secondary students; March 11- NAT for Grade Three elementary students; March 12-NAT for Grade Six elementary students; March 19-20 Fourth Quarterly Examinations for Grade Six and Fourth Year students; March 23 to 24-Fourth Quarterly Examinations for non-graduating students; March 27-Last day of classes/ Graduation; April 6 to 10-Distribution of Report Cards.

The department order also lists down the national holidays that fall on a weekday. There will be no classes in the following dates: 2014 June 12-Independence Day;July 28-Eid’l Fitr (tentative); August 21-Ninoy Aquino Day;August 25-National Heroes Day; 2015 February 25-EDSA Revolution Anniversary.

Elementary and secondary schools may also observe local holidays and activities, provided that the total number of school days shall be maintained and make-up classes will be held.

The same department order likewise instructs elementary and secondary schools to observe the following week- and month-long activities as mandated by law: 2014-June  Sake Kids Week; July-National Nutrition Month, National Disaster and Preparedness Month, Career Guidance Week, National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, Science and Technology Week, Savings Credit Consciousness Week; August-Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa, and Sight Saving Month; September-Literacy Month, Crime Prevention Month, Clean and Green Month, Science and Month Week, History Wee, and Linggo ng Kasuotang Filipino; October-Scouting Month Children’s Month, Consumer Welfare Month, Clean and Green Month, Week of the Elderly, and  National Health Education Week; November- National Reading Month, Filipino Values Month, Malaria Awareness Month, Deaf Awareness Week, and Drug Abuse Prevention and Awareness Week; December -Education Week, and Human Rights Week; 2015 January-National Cancer Consciousness Week, Autism Consciousness Week, and Breast Cancer Consciousness Week; February-Philippine Arts Month, National Children with Intellectual Disabilities Week, National Dental/Oral Week, Bantay Puso Week and Leprosy Prevention Week; March-Women’s Month, Fire Prevention Month, Career Guidance Week, and Girl Child Week.
